The Covid pandemic has shaken up the world.
Greatly disrupting our lives and routine.
Economy has crashed, so has illusion of control
We are stuck indoors, clueless in quarantine.
To contain corona, we are on a lock-down,
Safely isolated, but all we do is frown.
With Social distancing, dining out is no option,
Can’t party and can no longer leave the town.
So online we play, and online we shop
To feel better and knock out our gloom
Watch movies, scroll through SNS
Can’t hang out, but thank god for Zoom.
We are consumed with our blues
As death toll rises on the news
Yet do we ever consider those
fighting for life in ICUs??
It’s all about us chasing money
still busy with schedules and screens
Our relationships have gone cold
but we brush it all off in memes.
Covid brought a much needed break,
from our fast-paced, delusional lives.
Let’s take this once-in-a-life chance
to reflect and re-prioritize.
Lets reawaken our dreams; rekindle our passions
Give up being vain and driven by distractions
Why not exercise some patience and self-control
and find fulfillment in purposeful actions.
Let’s focus on relationships and memories
Let family-time be of joy and merriment
Make our home our happy places to return
at the end of the day, or to spend retirement.
Millions infected and countless already dead
Who’s in control, with the virus wreaking havoc?
Our governments with super powers?
Or our advanced science and tech?
It’s scary that Covid doesn’t discriminate,
Perhaps in God it’s time to find solace.
He is our only Savior, our only ray of hope.
So let’s all pray for His blessing and His grace.
Make the best of your time, instead of killing it,
Although days seem long, but this life is timed.
When the curfews lift, let’s go back realigned,
As a better person with a free-er heart and mind.
Amazing amazing poem. Each stanza succinctly covers feelings and concepts that have been boiling inside our minds, but this poem relays them in such a beautiful manner. It is so balanced and classy. I am impressed beyond words! I have been reading and reading it again to choose my favourite stanza and quote it here, but I actually cannot. But I would say you got me when you said economy has crashed, so has illusion of control.
You have beautifully penned down feelings, thoughts, and emotions of probably billions of people out there. I too have been wondering how COVID-19 is a blessing in disguise: a break from the fast-paced life and a delusional world granting us moments to reflect and probe.
