Spring is finally here! The flowers are blooming and greenery is glistening. It’s prime time to do some spring cleaning; throw out the old and bring in the new! It’s an opportunity to give your room a makeover and what better way than to whole heartedly accept the advent of spring! Here are some ways to turn your room into your very own secret garden.
Establishing earthy tones to the basics of your room is a great start. Green, brown or neutral bed sheets can go with decorative pillows in the accent color of your choosing. Not everyone can paint walls, so decorate them instead with prints of your favorite garden shots. Or better yet, embrace your inner botanical nerd and get the antique botanical illustrated prints!
As nice as the pictures on the wall might look, they are no replacement for actual plants. Having a mini CO2 to O2 converting machine is a great accessory! Plants can be therapeutic to tend to and a new project to try. Get a mini aloe or money plant. They’re easy-to-grow, low-maintenance plants that reach impressive lengths within a small span of time. Or if you want a little bit of a challenge, try your hand at succulents! They are the go-to millennial plant. Get a few and place them close to the window for maximum sun. For those of you, like me, who don’t have access to natural sunlight, use a lamp to keep them healthy and green.
However, not all of us have a green gardener’s thumb. My friend recently bought a tray of succulents, mothered them day and night, did all the right things, but got all the wrong results. It was disheartening, but in the end she settled for the plastic replicas. Succulents and cactuses have a waxy surface that is easily replicated and it is almost impossible to differentiate between the real and fake ones. You’ll have to pinch them to believe they’re plastic. You can also get a bouquet of your favorite blooms and keep them in the corner of your room no matter the season. Peonies are my favorite flowers and it’s a shame they only last a few weeks. I went ahead and bought some from amazon and they keep me company all year long. You won’t have to worry if they’re getting enough sun or too much water.
When you decide to have a few plants around your room, fake or real, you need to dedicate a space for them. Hanging planters or those affixed to the wall are great if you’re short on space. They brighten up a corner without adding clutter. But if you are blessed with an empty shelf or table, a great statement piece to add is a terrarium! Fill it up with your prized plants and colored rocks and gravel. Now you won’t have to worry about anything falling over or your cat nibbling on poisonous leaves! It’s your garden within a garden.
While everything looks chic and refined, don’t be afraid to throw in a few silly accessories if that’s what you’re into. I found these cactus candles and cactus coaster for my friend whose succulents died to make her feel better. Little accents like this add a bit of fun while keeping to the indoor garden theme.
And lastly, get scented candles or use a diffuser to complete the aesthetic. Floral scents such as jasmine or earthy essential oil fragrances like sandalwood are soothing and will transport you to a different mood. Don’t let allergies or limited yard space stop you from having your own garden. Bring the greenery to you!
I have researched the above mentioned links to the best of my ability. I have bought or plan to buy a lot of these items. Hope they help you in your search for the perfect decor. If you have any suggestions please drop them in the comments below!
